Seoul Day 8 [3 August 2011] Meeting with buddy, getting a korean handphone and electronic dictionary at Yongsan.

I know I have been neglecting this travel blog. But I had a difficult time trying to log in to blogger. However, I did all draft before, so I will be posting them slowly.  Writing this entry, I have already been to Korea a few times after coming back from Summer School 2011.

Lesson was pretty good. But, half the time to me, it was boring. Coz I was placed at the wrong class. However, I think my teacher sensed/feel/knew it and decided to switch me to the correct class.
It was good and I managed to learn even more things than what I did in Singapore.

My buddy came to meet me after my lesson. It was quite a surprise because most of the buddy could not make it on that day. And guess what, she is really really very pretty!
Initially at the start, we were both quite shy with each other. The sentence we spoke were so few that I could really count with both of my fingers. However, on our way back to my Goshitel to put my stuff before we head out, we started talking a little more.
That's when I knew she was younger than me (Obviously!) It was quite heartening to hear her calling me Unni (언니). In Korea, they are quite particular about ranking. As in, you don't call someone older than you by their name alone. You either add a sister/brother (And no, I don't call the guys Oppa, it sounds so weird that the words do not flow out of my mouth. Therefore I them with a Mr or senior if they are from my school.) at the back of their name or you add a Mr/Ms after their name. (Correct me if I am wrong. That's what my Korean friends told me. And I picked up from here.)

Anyway, she brought me to a Korean western restaurant to have lunch. It was delicious. The chicken steak taste like our chicken chop in Singapore. The only difference should be the kimchi as 1 of the side dish.

So good! It's located near KHU main door and it's still around as of today because I went back to have it again! Cannot resist the temptation.

I presented my Kinder surprise to her as a first time meet up gift. I couldn't think of what to get for her as everything we have here in Singapore, they have it there too. She had not seen Kinder Surprise before and was pretty excited. It was quite a relieve that she likes it.

After lunch, we decided to go to Yongsan because I needed a Korean Handphone. The reason was to get connected to the friends in Korea, classmates, my buddy and of coz the most important people like my family.
Yongsan, IPARK Mall is the best place to go if you are getting electronic items. But best is to get a Korean friend to go with you.
My buddy decided to teach me the shorter way to go to Hoegi station from school. After that 1 trip, I took that short cut everyday if I were to head to Hoegi Station. Thanks for the short cut!

My first station was to purchase a 2nd hand LG or Anycall handphone. The price range of the phone costs from 40 000won to 300 000won. After a long time, I decided to settle with this...

Wanted the pink LG-LV7500 but it was not available. So settle with the white.

And the accessories that comes along with it.

Decided to top up 10 000won. My phone plan was LG and it goes like this.
- Incoming call : FREE
- Outgoing call : 100 won per 10 second.
- SMS : 100 won per msg

Therefore, the phone costs 60 000 won + 10 000 won worth of credits = 70 000won.

Activation takes a full 3 days from the day you arrived in Korea. So if you are there for less than 7days. Do not purchase the phone and plan. It is not worth. You may consider renting a phone from the airport instead.

Settling the phone at Yongsan takes about an hour. And lastly, the most important thing you need to bring along is PASSPORT. Without this, you can't purchase the phone and plan. So, do remember them!

Please note!!!
Above are the phone plan in year 2011.
As I have returned back to Korea in 2013 and 2014, I have also used their New SIM card services.
I have used both Sroaming SIM card and EG Sim Card. Which I hope to explain more in my upcoming posts.

Next stop, we went down to level 4 to purchase my electronic dictionary. Of coz, prior to this trip, I had already did my research on which brand and model to get. I wanted to get iRiver D100 or Nurian X13. D100 was on my top of the list because it was so pretty with the pink shade. However, after having some discussion with the owner of the shop about which brand to get, I settled with Nurian X15 instead.

Nurian X15 and the accessories that comes with it. Costs 160 000won in 2011.

The reason was, iRiver is mainly for the Koreans learning English. (No wonder I see the Koreans in school using iRiver instead of other brands.) Sharp is mainly used by the Japanese. (No wonder all of the Japanese in my class uses Sharp.) Nurian is mainly for Chinese user. Therefore, I decided to choose Nurian since I can understand both English and Chinese characters. As for why I didn't purchase X13 was because it was Out of Stock. Generally, I feel that X15 was more than enough. The higher the number, the more expensive it is. And of coz, the higher the range, they have more items which I do not need it. So basically, a very basic electronic dictionary is good for my everyday usage. (It is still serving me well till today!)

Purchases of the day.

We left Yongsan at around 530pm and went our separate ways when we reach Hoegi. I went to meet another group of friends for dinner. End up, I guess in Korea Jawsfood's tteokbokki is really too spicy for menbecause I had a very serious tummy ache at midnight that I couldn't sleep and I was sweating from pain the whole night.
